Austin Forum presents a Contemporary Sacred Art exhibition by designer Phil Baines. For the first time, he is exhibiting his whole collection of 32 Paschal candle designs.
The exhibition takes place in a recently renovated St Augustine’s Catholic Church, Hammersmith, part of a wider Regeneration Project of the site, led by architect Roz Barr.
Last Friday the private view saw a mixture of Austin Forum members, St Augustine's parishioners and people from the art & design community.
Phil Baines gave a talk on the processes and ideas behind his work.
"The Exsultet is my most widely used text - it is the best prayer, from the best service, of the church's best day in the year, after all.
It is so rich to work with, the exhortations in the opening at the first verses: Exult, rejoice, sing,
or the repetition later on: This is the night (x3), most blessed of all nights."
